Zinio Magazine App

One of my favorite Apple Apps for iPad is the Zinio Magazine App.  It is free to download and it enables you to receive Magazines from all over the world on your iPad.  You can get magazine subscriptions for prices like 12.99 for the year! That is about the price of one magazine on the local news stands.  Plus you can access your account on your PC as well, so you don’t have to actually have an iPad to take advantage of this great service.  I have been using the Zinio App for about 4 months now and it is very stable and it has no problem with international credit cards. With this on your iPad you carry a stack of digital magazines around with you without being weighed down, which makes it great for travel.

Besides automatic delivery of magazines, dirt cheap pricing of subscriptions, access to magazines around the world, and compact light digital storage; one of the best things about the App is you are not wasting paper by throwing out stacks of magazines every year, and you are reducing the carbon foot print because no jet fuel or diesel fuel has been used in your magazine’s delivery.

Samsung manufactures transparent LCDs

Samsung Electronics has started mass production of a 22-inch transparent LCD panel.  The devices incorporate both HDMI and USB interfaces.

The transparent LCD panel enables a person to look right through the panel like glass, and it consumes 90% less electricity compared with a conventional LCD panel using a back light unit. The transparent LCD panel utilizes ambient light such as sun light, which reduces the dependency on electricity for generating power.

Transparent display panels can be used for advertising purposes, applied to show windows and used in showcase events.

**Precise Systems is not a Samsung dealer and does not endorse this product, we just think it is cool!

Nintendo to Release New Wii in 2012

Start saving your money, kids. A new gaming console is on the way. Nintendo just announced plans to replace the Wii with a new gaming system in 2012.

The new system, which has been called the Wii 2, Wii HD and Project Cafe, will be unveiled at this summer’s E3 Expo. The show will take place in Los Angeles from June 7 to 9.

To date, Nintendo has sold approximately 86 million Wii consoles. The console also changed the way we look at (or play) gaming, due to the motion controller.

Rumors have been flying about possible Wii 2 features, which may or may not include HD, 3D, and a touchscreen controller. Could it also have home control features?

iPad Apps that help at Work

We have been looking into ways to use our iPad’s to help us with work tasks, the use of the iPad has enabled us to transport client files and easily access remote servers while on jobsites, present control systems demos to clients, and more.  The iPad tablet has changed to way work can be done making it more efficient and fun to conduct meetings.  Occasionally, like any iPad owner, we review the HOT  LIST of Apps from different publications to see what new tools we can play with – for work purposes of course.  Below are a list of fun  work related apps that can help you in your day to day business operations.

Air Sharing HD ($9.99): You can’t get work done if you don’t have your files. Air Sharing HD lets you wirelessly mount your iPad and load all your documents.

Air Sketch ($4.99): Sometimes you need a picture to communicate your ideas. This digital sketchpad lets you record and share your concepts.

Dragon Dictation (Free): Some people will never warm up to typing on a virtual keyboard. Luckily, this excellent voice recognition app is free.

iTeleprompter 2.0 ($4.99): If you’re shooting video, getting a teleprompter used to be an expensive proposition. Now you can have a customizable, fully-featured one right on your iPad.

Meeting Mate ($2.99): Keep track of your meetings and run them from one app. It lets you keep notes for each meeting and e-mail your notes.

Time Master + Billing ($9.99): Do you charge by the hour? Get this app, which keeps track of your times and creates professional invoices.

The Awesome Currency Calculator allows you to convert between 160 world currencies, and you can view your native currency and multiple foreign ones at the same time. The rates are constantly updated, and you can calculate tax and keep track of previous calculations.

iBrainstorm (free):A great and geeky way to interact with your colleagues is to use your iPad as an idea pad, with iBrainstorm. Using an iPhone companion app (free), team members can flick their notes straight onto the iPad screen (via seamless Bluetooth connection)

Chimpadeedoo (free): Next time you go to a conference or networking event, bring Chimpadeedoo. A kiosk-style app tied to the popular MailChimp e-mail marketing service, it allows you to gather e-mail addresses via an elegant interface on your iPad. You can customize the background and the text, and you can turn the iPad into a sign-up stand thanks to the screen-lock feature.

iTranslate (free) If you frequently travel to foreign countries for your job, then you know how handy a pocket dictionary can be. Sporting a simple yet beautiful interface,  can translate words and phrases into more than 50 languages. The translation is instant (as you type), and the app can even help you with pronunciation through 11 (slightly robotic-sounding) text-to-speech voices for popular languages.

Monster Free Apps

We all love FREE, and we wanted to give you the 411 on a new service that brings you free Apps:

We’re all very familiar with Monster Cable. They have the A/V empire that includes cables, headphones, 3D glasses, power products, cleaners, and much more. However, it seems that there is another Monster making quite an uproar. This one is Monster Mobile.

In March the Monster Cable company announced the launch of Monster Free Apps, a brand new iPhone app. The idea is to have the one app comb through thousands upon thousands of other apps out there, to find you a few freebies.

If you’re familiar with the App Store, most likely you know that there are thousands of free apps out there. This app doesn’t just generate one giant list. Instead, it sends you daily push notifications of apps that have just become free or are free for a limited time. See the difference?

According to Monster Mobile, paid apps go on sale for free every day. Once you get a peek at what’s on sale, you have the option to download it for free, courtesy of Monster Free Apps, before the price goes back to normal.

This may be a great way to get games and other fun apps on your iPad, iPhone or iTouch and save you some money!

Crestron Dealers Dominate Commercial AV Industry

The highly anticipated Systems Contractor News(SCN) Top 50 Systems Integrators list, which recognizes the leading integrators in the commercial AV industry, was released this week. Firmly established as the gold standard by which commercial integrators are measured, the Top 50 list revealed that 49 of the SCN Top 50 are Crestron dealers.

“Crestron congratulates each company on this prestigious list, and we applaud their hard work, dedication and innovation in driving our industry forward,” said Crestron Executive Vice President, Randy Klein. “It’s very gratifying to see that the most successful companies in our industry are Crestron dealers, and we’re proud to have contributed once again to the success of so many of our dealers who made the list this year.”

These leading integrators set the pace for AV firms, both large and small, who serve clients in commercial markets such as corporate, education, government/military, hospitality, stadiums and arenas, and many others segments.

With the ability to offer complete, fully-integrated building technology solutions, including distributed AV systems, commercial lighting control, HVAC control, security, and more, it’s no coincidence that nearly all of the top 50 are Crestron dealers.

The SCN Top 50 Systems Integrators, which includes firms in the U.S. and Canada, were ranked by projected systems integration revenue for 2010. As is the case every year, this year’s submissions were voluntary. “The greatest measure of our success at Crestron is the success of our dealers,” Klein added. “We will continue to emphasize our commitment to Crestron dealers and our dedication to helping them build their businesses by offering the most innovative solutions and products, the best training, and the most reliable support in the industry.”

Dishnet Work is going 3D

DISH Network is releasing a swarm of 3D movies. All DISH’s new 3D content will be delivered on a video-on-demand basis, and so far include only family movie titles.

The opening 3D titles include: “Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore,” “The Last Airbender,” “A Christmas Carol” and “Step Up 3D.” Additional titles coming in January include “Despicable Me,” “Shrek Forever After,” and “Saw: The Final Chapter.”  DISH says the movies will be in high definition “up to 1080p resolution,” which probably means that at least some will be in 720p.

What You Need to Enjoy DISH 3D

DISH Network’s 3D works with modern 3D HDTVs. Some older 3D TVs may require additional hardware in order to view today’s 3D content, so be sure to ask the TV manufacturer.

Depending on the 3D HDTV manufacturer, the glasses may have to be purchased separately from the TV. Consider purchasing more than one pair so that everyone in your home can enjoy the 3D experience.

A compatible DISH receiver (ViP 922) delivers a 3D video signal. The HDMI port and cabling that comes with the ViP 922 supports 3D viewing.

High-speed HDMI cables (10.2 Gbps or higher) work just fine with the HDMI 3D pass-through technology found in 3D-capable HDTVs and Blu-ray players. The HDMI cable used with the DISH ViP 922 receiver supports 3D viewing.

Make sure that a home theater system will be compatible with the 3D pass-through technology. Check with the manufacturer.

If you have all the above Movies are available on channels 1 and 501 in your guide on your ViP 922 receiver.

Satronics Enterprises Ltd. is our reccommended satellite providers on the island.  If you are already one of our clients and want to upgrade your system to include a ViP 922 reciever and 3D television please contact us so that we can get the project going for you.
